I'm so happy to expand PFCM's visual art component this year. Jen, Andy, Natasha, and Kaitlyn will join forces to create amazing collaborations involving sculpture, video, and installation. Jennifer Lauren Smith’s sculptures and films often explore how sound can be a metaphorical tool in the exploration of landscape and place-experience. Her work in video often takes the form of experimental narrative, focusing on ways of representing sound and sonic experience visually, thereby examining the limitations of verbal language. Smith’s installations are often site-specific and experienced in unexpected circumstances. When not working in off-site locations she utilizes lectures and other public opportunities to stage work. She received her BA from Reed College in Portland, OR and her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Her work has been presented in galleries and film festivals alike, including Emerson Dorsch Gallery (Miami, FL), Pierogi Boiler (Brooklyn, NY), Reynolds Gallery (Richmond, VA), Finger Lakes Film Festival (Ithaca, NY), The Façade Film Festival (Plovdiv, Bulgaria), and Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten, (Marl, Germany). In 2015 Smith founded P/H/A/O/N, a presentation space for time-based art in Sunset Park, Brooklyn where she is currently based. I can't wait to see this incredible groups of artists up at PFCM! Jen was the last of the new PFCM personnel. Stay tuned for the next posts involving repertoire, concerts, and more... Comments are closed.
